Privacy at a glance
Clear, simple, and strict.
Receipt stores your receipts and financial information locally on your device — we never see or access your data.
Information we collect
Receipt collects minimal information only when you actively use specific features:

Local data storage
Receipt stores all your data locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This includes:
- Scanned receipt PDFs (multi-page supported)
- Extracted data (merchant names, dates, totals, line items)
- Folder organization and structure
- Your comments and notes
- Currency preferences and exchange rates
- App settings
Camera usage
Receipt uses your device’s camera to scan receipts:
- Camera access is only activated when you tap scan
- Photos are converted to PDFs and stored locally
- Multi-page scanning is supported for long receipts
- No images are uploaded to external servers
- You can revoke camera access any time in iOS Settings
Microphone usage
Receipt uses the microphone for voice dictation of comments:
- Microphone activates only when you tap the dictation button
- Speech recognition is processed using Apple’s Speech framework
- Dictated text is stored locally as comments
- No audio recordings are stored or transmitted
- You can revoke microphone access any time in iOS Settings
OCR & data extraction
Receipt automatically extracts data from your receipts:
- OCR uses Apple’s Vision framework entirely on-device
- Extracted data includes merchant name, date, total, and line items
- Currency can be detected from receipt text
- You can manually edit any extracted data
Share extension
Receipt includes a Share Extension to import receipts from other apps:
- Accept PDFs and images from Files, Mail, Safari, Photos
- Imported files are processed and stored locally
- Data sharing uses iOS App Groups
- No data is transmitted to external services
Third-party services
Receipt is designed to work completely offline using only Apple frameworks:
- VisionKit & Vision: Document scanning and OCR (Apple, on-device)
- PDFKit: PDF creation and viewing (Apple, on-device)
- SwiftData: Local data storage (Apple, on-device)
- Speech: Dictation for comments (Apple, on-device)
We do not use any third-party services for data storage, analytics, advertising, or tracking.
Data sharing
We do not share, sell, or transmit your personal information or receipt data to any third parties.
The only time your data leaves your device is when you choose to:
- Export receipts as PDF or CSV files
- Share exported files via the iOS Share Sheet
How we use your information
All data collected by Receipt is used solely to provide app functionality:
- Store and display scanned receipts
- Extract and organize receipt information
- Enable searching by merchant, amount, or text
- Track currencies and exchange rates
- Generate export reports (PDF, CSV) when requested
Data storage and security
Local storage
All your receipts and app data are stored locally on your device using iOS secure storage mechanisms. We do not maintain servers or databases with your information.
No cloud sync
Receipt does not offer cloud synchronization. Your data remains exclusively on your device.
No account required
Receipt does not require registration or login.
What we don’t do
Receipt is committed to respecting your privacy. We explicitly do NOT:
- Use advertising networks or display ads
- Include analytics or user tracking
- Use third-party SDKs for tracking
- Collect device identifiers or personal information
- Monitor usage patterns or behavior
- Share data with advertisers or data brokers
- Store your data on our servers
- Require user registration or accounts
- Access your financial accounts or bank information
- Send data over the internet
Your rights and choices
You have complete control over your data in Receipt:
- Access: full access to your receipt data within the app
- Export: export receipts as PDF or CSV at any time
- Edit: edit extracted data (merchant, total, date, currency)
- Deletion: delete individual receipts and folders
- Camera control: enable/disable camera access in iOS Settings
- Microphone control: enable/disable microphone access in iOS Settings
Children’s privacy
Receipt does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we make changes:
- We update the “Last updated” date
- Significant changes will be communicated through app updates
- Continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
